Nissan Boosts Price Of Electric Leaf Cars

Top-seller of electric cars in the US, Nissan is not just expanding sales to nine more states in South US but also hiking the price of the battery- powered Leaf by about 8%. Now a 2012 SV grade Leaf will cost US 35,200, whereas the 2012 SL version will cost USD 37,250. This increase in the prices of the cars cover new standard equipment, informs Brendan Jones, Nissan's US sales manager for Leaf.
The new cars will come with a higher content level including a cold-weather package standardized for both grades and fast-charge capability for the SL version allowing it to get recharged in just thirty minutes from a high-voltage charger, asserts Jones.
Nissan is known to have sold 1,708 Leaf cars to US drivers in June and 3,875 in Q1 2011. Chief Executive Officer, Carlos Ghosn, shares that their goal is of becoming the world's largest electric cars seller with demand for their vehicles expected to grow to 10% of global sales by 2020.
