ARCHITECTURE
I n 1969, after two years of study
in the school of Architecture at the University of Texas
, I began a drafting career that lasted for the next 13 years. During this
time I not only produced construction documents for Architects and designers,
but also both pen & ink, and watercolor renderings. The final nine of
those years was spent as an Architectural Draftsman in the Property
Development department of Zale
Corporation in Dallas
Texas.
AUTO-TROL
Z ale Corporation purchased an Auto-trol AD/380 CAD
system in 1979. I soon became the Lead Operator. In 1981 I was promoted to
Job Captain and given overall responsibility for managing the CAD system. My
responsibilities included training new personnel, supervising the seven CAD
drafters, and programming software.

I n 1982 Intergraph had
just introduced a new turn key product for Architects called the
Architectural Innovator. I joined Intergraph at that time as an "Applications
Demonstrations Specialist". I spent the next two years demonstrating
their CAD systems to Architects in Texas and
Colorado.
SIGMA DESIGN
I left Intergraph in 1984 to work
for Sigma Design
. Sigma was also selling turn key CAD systems but their software was
specifically written for Architectural applications. Here I not only demonstrated
the software but also provided end user training and support. In
1986 Sigma began to sell it's software through authorized dealers and my roll
changed to that of providing training and technical support to dealers as
well as demonstrating the software at dealer sites. In 1987 I became a District
Marketing Manager and my responsibilities expanded to include locating
and starting up new dealers and providing them with sales support. In 1988 I
became the National Applications Consultant. This meant that I created
custom demonstrations for new products, provided demonstration support at
national shows, provided training and support to Regional Application
Consultants, and provided technical support and demonstrations at dealer
sites.
AUTOCAD
I n August 1989 I accepted the
position of CAD Systems Manager with the Army and Air Force Exchange
Service ( AAFES
) in Dallas.
I monitored the procurement and administered the installation of the hardware
and software for the Customer Facilities department. This consisted of 40
AutoCAD seats with ASG's Architectural package running on Dell PC's. I wrote
custom AutoLISP programs, created the standards and procedures to be used by
all our CAD users, taught formal AutoCAD classes to our CAD system operators,
and implemented the networked drawing management system AutoManager Workflow.
ARRIS
I n August 1993 I returned to work
for Sigma Design as
the Director of Technical Services in their Texas "ARRISource" office. My
major client at this time was Wal-Mart . They had 45 seats of ARRIS running on
Hewlett Packard work stations on a large Unix network. I installed the
software, trained the operators, and provided continuing maintenance and
support.

I n October 1994 I began working as
an independent CAD consultant. I call my company CAD
Directions .
