The prices of small cars are expected to drop this fall. Kelley The figures of Blue Book auto pricing services show that costs of average new compact cars will come down to as low as $19,300 from an otherwise steady price of $20,500 by the end of this year. They also expect the prices of used compact cars to reduce to $9,600.
The drop in prices of these small cars is supposed to happen during the month of September.
Along with the anticipated reduction in small car prices, there is also an on-going discussion regarding the potential surplus of small cars in the market.
With Honda and Toyota recovering from Japan's earthquake and tsunami disasters, they are increasing their production rapidly. Due to this cars like Civics and Priuses will re-enter the market and dealers will not be forced to put their clients on long waiting lists for small cars.
Due to the speedy production of these cars, General Manager George Davis of Honda dealership is of the opinion that there will suddenly be more small cars floating around than actually necessary.

The new safety system of Volvo for SUVs has proven to be a success. The owners of Volvo XC60 which has been given the advanced forward collision warning system have filed for property damage 27% less than the owners of other midsize luxury SUVs.
This study was carried out by the Insurance Industry for Highway Safety and they found out that this system could curb the number of low speed wrecks by 25%.
The Volvo system which is available in the SUV is called 'City Safety' and it reacts to the presence of vehicles in front of it when the distance is within 18 feet. This feature works in both day and night driving and the system works to prevent a crash if the speed difference between the two vehicles is less than 9mph.
The system provided in this SUV does not give a warning to the driver before it brakes at the last instant if the driver does not take any action. The other systems provide warnings and prepare air bags and restraints for a crash. City Safety is helping the SUV drivers to prevent the low speed crashes that occur in heavy traffic. This also results in less insurance costs and repair costs for the owners.
